Different Types Of Broadband Providers
As users have started shifting from the older dial up systems to broadband connectivity, broadband providers have become a very important entity in the whole setup. The speed of connection and the fact that no dedicated phone line is needed for it, gives broadband connection a big edge over the dial up system. The seer number of users has ensured that every broadband provider promises different and better services to the users, leaving them confused and unsure as to which broadband provider is most suitable for their purpose. In such a scenario, it is essential for the user to know the actual facts about the different services offered by a broadband provider, so that he can make an informed choice and not regret later. DSL Broadband Provider DSL or digital subscriber line, is one of the oldest and common forms of broadband service. A DSL broadband provider provides internet connection over the phone line, though the design of DSL is such that it allows one to be online without tying up the line for phone calls. A DSL broadband provider can therefore provide internet connection at a lesser cost, using existing phone lines. However, DSL service is limited by a customer’s distance from their local phone switch, which means this system is difficult to organize and run in remote or rural areas with distant connections to phone links. Cable Broadband Provider A Cable broadband provider on the other hand uses separate cable for the purpose. A cable broadband provider usually shares the use of cable television networks to deliver the Internet services. Cable service has both pluses and minuses. It was the fastest service that a broadband provider could provide till recently. It can still boast of speeds that can’t be matched by DSL service at comparable costs. However, cable broadband providers have a limited amount of bandwidth which is distributed among all users in a designated area. So the greater the popularity of a cable broadband provider in a particular area, the slower it is likely to be at peak hours. It is impossible for the Cable broadband provider to predict or control the number of users logging on simultaneously. FiOS Broadband Provider FiOS, or fiber-optic service, is one of the latest ways through which a broadband provider can provide internet connectivity. At present offered by Verizon in the United States, FiOS currently tops the other services in the fields of speed of connection. A FiOS related broadband provider can provide the best quality service. He can also provide a package deal including television and phone link through the Fios. The down side to this service is that currently there is only one broadband provider for this service, viz Verizon, and users within their coverage area only can benefit from their services. It is also impossible to get any comparative analysis with another such broadband provider regarding rates, performances, etc. No matter which type of broadband provider one selects, the change over to broadband itself is a great experience, increasing productivity as well as enjoyment of the user.
